Description

This was painted on woodpanel with handmade gouche, about 24x24" in size.  I painted this for a fantasy painting event here in Vancouver called Dragons n' Shit, the details for which can be found here: www.facebook.com/events/780645…

These are the Dragon Gods.  They're the creators of Cascade, this fantasy world's prime movers.  Mostly they try to avoid interfering with the world that they created, but sometimes it's rather hard to avoid.
They are, from the top in clockwise order:

Varala- Dragon Goddess of Light and Virtue
Varala is one of the oldest dragons, born from the separation of light from darkness.  Her light is the source of knowledge and reason in Cascade.
She is the maker of the Goblin races, including those of the Hobgoblin Empire.

Drakonis-Dragon God of Wind and Freedom
Drakonis is the dragon who first invented the concept of freedom when he blew the first gust of wind and bid creatures to soar on it.
He is also the creator and keeper of the Drakonite race.

Pyrrhos-Dragon God of Fire and Crafts
Pyrrhos is the crafty dragon who first created volcanoes that erupted to make great patches of land and devised ways of cooking things and forging tools with the flame.  He also created the summer season, and is mighty fond of riddles.
Pyrrhos created the flightless phoenix race known as the Pyrix.

Nocturne-Dragon God of Darkness and Emotion
Nocturne was born at the same time Varala was.  Because of his appearance, he was misunderstood from the beginning.  Though a terrifying looking keeper of nighttime, Nocturne also is the originator of emotions, including love, fear, hope, loneliness, courage, and sadness.
Nocturne brought a group of Daevils up from the Underworld, and re-made them into the freedom loving Daemons.

Terra-Dragon Goddess of Earth and Life
Terra rules the land and joyfully made most of the creatures and life upon it in accordance with the cycle of the seasons devised by Umana and Pyrrhos.  Nowadays she can be found scampering among the creatures in the wilderness.
Terra is the maker of the hard-working badger-derived race known as the Mongers.

Umana-Dragon Goddess of Water and Wisdom
Umana is a reclusive sea-dragon mostly concerned with making things under the sea.  Her fellow dragon gods bade her to create a sentient race, which she did, after borrowing a couple of monkeys from Terra.  Umana is the maker of the winter season, and suggested having temperate seasons between it and the summer season.  She is also the matron goddess of philosophy in Cascade.  If anyone is lucky enough to catch her tail, she'll give them a piece of advise that can lead them to good fortune.
Umana made the peace-loving, sea-faring human race.

Those are the dragons of Cascade, and one of the first major insights you'll get into Cascade lore.  Thank you very much.
